July 2026 game reviews – batch 2
After playing and reviewing the first 10 days, I can already see some behaviors to correct. I keep repeating the same mistakes, sometimes within hours after “understanding” them in a prior review. It’s a game of whack-a-mole, I focus on one thing and forget about the other.
2026-07-11 : Actually felt in control the whole way. AI review reveals a tendency to reply to bad moves with bad moves.
2026-07-11 b : A nice peaceful, mutual building game. The possibility of an elephant jump being good shape surprised me – I’ll look to add that to my repertoire.
2026-07-12 : Two reminders of a nice tesuji in the same game.
2026-07-12 b : Clown show – the sloppiest game of the month by far.
2026-07-13 : Some of the opening moves recommended by AI were surprising and interesting to me. Nice chase practice intending to attack for profit. Some shape mistakes to learn from.
2026-07-14 : I’m aware that in the last few games, and again in this one, I’ve benefitted significantly from opponents mistakes. At some stage that charity will no longer be given.
2026-07-15 : Didn’t tenuki when I should have, did tenuki when I shouldn’t have. Still benefitting from reprieves after critical mistakes.
2026-07-16 : Didn’t sacrifice when I should have, did sacrifice when I shouldn’t have. I need to be more eager to cut my opponent. Another charity win, but it was educational.
2026-07-17 : Bad mix of extreme paranoia combined with not knowing how to attack.
2026-07-18 : Missed timing on tenukis while focusing too tightly on weakish groups.
2026-07-19 : If I want to progress, I eventually need to stop automatic “obvious” responses.
2026-07-20 : Trying to force a moyo to happen instead of encouraging one which wants to naturally form.
